Art 9 Studio - The Waste Land Project
Inspired by artist Vic Muniz's documentary film "Waste Land" - students re-created their own photographs with found objects. Prints of their projects were sold in an art room fundraiser. The students raised $200 and donated it a local charity. Click on the images to see them in their entirety!

Art 8 - Public Art Sculptures
Students created "maquette" sculptures of their public art sculpture plans with plasticene, paper, wire, popsicle sticks and other materials found around the art room. They used photoshop to place images of their sculptures into found images of Grande Prairie. The students came up with a number of thought provoking, witty, charming and humorous solutions!
Art 8 - Public Art - Planning/Brainstorming & Sketches
After students were introduced to the concept of "public art" we brainstormed as a group ideas about the place where we live as a starting point for the creation of a public art work for Grande Prairie - connecting meaning to place. Students then had to draft six different ideas for their final sculpture from the ideas generated. Out of the six sketches students chose one to create in 3-D. (See above.)

Art 9 - Skpye Interview with Video Game Artist
The Art 9 students had a chance to research and present facts about jobs in the art industry - everything from graphic designers to jewellery and skateboard designers! To end our unit on "Cool Jobs in Art" we had the opportunity to chat via skype with video game art producer Adrien Cho (who has worked on popular games such as Mass Effect and Halo 4). Though technology did not work in our favour that day, we had a fun sending messages back and forth with Adrien. Students walked away inspired to keep doing the type of art they love and with hard work and dedication the career will follow! Thank you Adrien!

Art 8/9 - Pastel Flowers 2011
These flowers were drawn first in pencil on black construction paper. The pencil lines were traced with white glue. When the white glue dried the work was finished with chalk pastel. The dry white glue lines do not pick up any of the chalk colour, allowing the colour of the black construction paper to show. What a neat effect!

Art Studio 9 - Skateboards - Artist Studies
Pairs of students worked together on each board. One very special board is missing from this group. It was sold at this year's Fine Spring Evening and got away before I had a chance to photograph it! If the purchaser of this board would like to email me a picture of it I would love to post that photo here. Thanks! :)
Art 8/9 - Abstract Cardboard Relief Sculpture
Based on the work of American artist, Frank Stella, the students were challenged to express movement and physical activity in an abstract way.
Can you guess what these sculptures are about? :)
